5) VP Debate Live

October 5th, 2004

Yeah! The moderator has just asked the question I have been asking for months. France and Germany have stated they do NOT want to send peace keepers to Iraq - so now what is the Kerry / Edwards plan? I am listening to his answer very carefully.

Hmm, so Edwards answer is that they will be successfull, and that will encourage more participation. And, their success is dependant on that participation. So, after getting that extra participation they will be successfull enough to get extra participation. That does not exactly make sense … or at least not “normal” sense. It must make Senatorial sense.

Cheney was a little snarky, when he turned to Edwards and noted, “you probably weren’t there for that vote …” which is an off handed way of saying - you don’t show up much! I have no idea if that is true or not, though I have heard that criticism of Kerry.

Cheney is really pounding the Kerry voting record in the Senate. I have no idea if this will resonate with the American voters … but it’s interesting.

OOh, good point! Edwards pointed out that Cheney has opposed some of the same weapons systems that he is criticizing Kerry for. I’d like to hear Cheny answer that, but he didn’t.

3) VP Debate Live!

I’m glad Cheney is both exposing Kerry’s voting record as well as mentioning the “international test” that Kerry declared as necessary in their debate. This is something that Bush should have done, but didn’t. At least someone is.

I do think it is interesting to watch the hand gestures used by Cheney. You’d think sitting down would limit that, but he’s found quite a range of motion. On the other hand, he’s slouching onto his elbows and I really think he should sit up straight.

2) VP Debate Live!

One difference I see, which is pretty big, is that the two debators can speak directly to each other. At least, Edwards is addressing Cheney directly - I haven’t heard Cheney directly address Edwards yet. There is still lots of time.

Edwards just stated that the weapons inspectors needed more time to find whether or not there were WMD’s. If I recall, Saddam was not allowing them to do their jobs. How could they have discovered anything if they were not even allowed to inspect? Further, how do we know Saddam was not deliberately postponing the UN inspectors while he hid the WMD’s?

1) VP Debate Live!

I’m trying my hand at another Live Blog … I am watching the VP debate on CSPAN-2 so there is no commentary. This time I’m not even going to be reading any other blogs while I write this. I am going to honestly appraise what I hear and what I see. I figure I can do better this time, as last time was my first and I’ve learned a thing or two or three!

Wish me luck, I’ll need it.
