A big hole!

April 29th, 2005

I have a few interesting things to write about, but first I wanted to add a new photo album.

A week ago, my next door neighbor found a hole under her wooden patio deck. She thought it was the burrow of a small animal and called her adult son to investigate. He discovered it was caused by the water leaking out of her water main! So, she contacted building maintenance and they contacted professional plumbers. Thus began two days of digging and noise and heavy equipment. Anyway, after hers was replaced, they approached me about replacing mine also. The piping was same age and the hole was already there … so I said go ahead.

Also, in order to get the new water main (which is a one inch plastic hose) into my condo, the plumbers had to remove my washer, dryer, and hot water heater. The water heater is also very old, and the pressure reduction valve was all corroded, so they offered to replace the hot water heater and not charge me any labor (since they already had to remove and re-install it anyway). So, on top of everything else, I got a good deal on a brand new hot water heater!

At the last minute, it occurred to me that this would be the perfect opportunity to use my digital camera. After all, it’s not everyday that I have giant earth moving equipment directly below my bedroom window! So, I was able to snap some photo’s and have assembled them into a photo album.

Note: My two poor cats have been on edge the whole time. There is a lot of noise, the voices of the workers, the deisel engine of the backhoe, and jack hammer, etc. Also, today (while they worked in my condo) I had to lock the two cats in my bedroom. I made sure that they have their food, water, and litter box. In a normal day, they spend a lot of time lounging around my bedroom, anyway - now they are just shut in. They’re not happy, but they are comfortable. I’ll let them out when the workers are done.
